About Khotintawn Valte @ V.K. TAWNA.

Pu Vungdai and his beloved wife Pi Khoinem lived in the village of Mimbung which is situated between the Lushai Hills, Manipur and Chin Hills (Burma). They had between them three sons. The third and youngest son among them was Shri Khotintawn Valte @ VK Tawna was born in August, 1935. They then migrated to Teikhang in the year 1939. Shri Khotintawn Valte began his schooling at Teikhang LP School in 1944 that was during the Japanese War. The bravery and patriotism of the then Japanese and Indian soldiers and the aircrafts flying about in his surroundings had greatly inspired and encouraged him in the pursuit of his education. He passed class-III in 1st Division in 1949.

The family then migrated to Zenhang Lamka in January, 1950. Thereafter, he passed class – VI in 1952 from NEIG Mission Compound. Then, a high school under the auspice of Pu Thianlam Vaiphei, was established in churachandpur from which he passed Matriculation in 1959. He then passed Intermediate of Arts (equivalent to class XII) in Second Division in 1961 from D.M. College, Imphal. He then studied Bachelor of Arts (B.A) at St. Edmunds College, Shillong and Graduated with Honours in Economics in Second class in 1964. He was awarded Siamsinpawlpi Literary Award the same year.

During 1964-65, He served as Editor of “Voice of Churachandpur”. It was during this period that he also served as Asst.Teacher in Sielmat Christian College and taught Economics and Lushai subjects.

Thereafter he joined Govt. Service as Lecturer of Economics in Ukhrul Higher Secondary School. He served there from July 24, 1965 to June, 1974. After that, he served in Churachandpur Higher Secondary School till January, 1980. He then served as Project Officer in the Directorate of Adults Education, Imphal from February 16, 1980 to May 30, 1980. From May 31, 1980 he served as Functional Manager (Infrastructure) in the District Industries Centre, Churachandpur, Manipur South District. He was then promoted to Joint Director (Commerce & Industries) on May 14, 2000 and held this post till his death on 20th June, 2000.

He got married to his beloved wife Mrs. Dimkhochiin, the second daughter of Pu (L) Letkhankam on December 22, 1964 and reside in Upper Lamka, Churachandpur. They have seven children: 2 sons and 5 daughters namely:

  3. Mrs Jamlianvung – M.A. Economics;
  4. Mrs Vungliankim – M.Sc. Zoology;
  5. Mrs Thanglianmawi – B.Sc. Chemestry;
  6. Mr Siamnunlian Valte – M.A. Economics;
  7. Mrs Khumbiakmang – B.A. Education

Pu V Khotintawn was an industrious and self-supporting man. He was fond of manual labour and interior designing. He himself manually made furniture for his home, namely, almirah’s, chairs and tables etc. he was also skilled in sewing and knitting as professionals which he had acquired by his own natural skills. He was a self-reliant man and as such an advocate of the same.
